This weekend turned out to be an expensive one.

I replaced all of my lead acid batteries with West Marine AGMs. While I was exchanging the old acid batteries out, I removed the battery tray to remove the old straps. Low and behold, the stainless steel screws that hold down the tray were eaten away. Does anyone know if this is a galvonic issue or simply the old leaking lead acid batteries (over time) that caused the bolts to be eaten? Any help would be appreciated. I cleaned up the area were the old batteries were located and installed the new batteries and tie down straps.
Thank you,
