So there have a been a few threads on the board lately all about pictures of different destinations.

I guess I wanted to show off one of the most interesting and beautiful places I have ever had the privledge to boat.

Back in June my wife and I went up to Cedarville, MI and spent 1.5 days just exploring the area by boat. The Les Cheneaux islands are rich in history and a wonderful place to boat even today. We also made it out to Mackinac Island for dinner on the second day.

It was a wonderful trip. Here are several pictures. Enjoy.

The Mackinaw Bridge:

Hessel Marina, we chose to launch from here since the water levels made the Cedarville ramp a little less than ideal. The Hessel marina is very nice and is where the Antique Wooden Boat show is held every August.

Typical home/boat house on an island, this one is a bit run down:

Great pics! I'm loving all the local pics here lately. I really need to take my camera out on the boat with me.

When I first started to view your post I was expecting a much larger boat. With a bit more courage and some maps, perhaps I'll give it a go some day in my H190. I have been to Mackinac Island many times on Arnold Lines and have obviously seen some very calm water and some extemely rough seas. Looks like you had a great trip. Thanks for sharing!

On a day like we had, it didn't really take too much courage to venture out into the open water. It was perfect weather.

We were vigilant and payed very close attention to the forecast to make sure we wouldn't get caught off gaurd later in the day.

I will say that without my iPhone I would have been a little less courageous though.

I used it to look at radar, check the marine forcast, check iFourWinns and also used the Navionics navigation app to find my way and track my progress.

A chart plotter of some sort (even a hand held Garmin with appropriate map cards would do) is a must in the Les Cheneaux Islands. The big boulders can sneak up on you, if you don't know where they are.

Here is a picture of some boulders off the South Western shore of Government Island. I was in about 40 ft of water in a bay between Government Island and this "point" that juts out from La Salle Island when this picture was taken. There were boulders breaking the surface several hundred yards off shore. Without a chart plotter it would have been impossible to know where it was safe to go.

Not the best picture, but you can see the black boulders above the water.

We travelled about 70 miles in the full day we were on the water.

Here are the tracks from the trip:

Ken,

Where on Hill Island do you stay? We drove out on Hill and No. 8 island while we were up there. Lots of nice homes.
