I had my FW trailer stolen out of my driveway on June 12/11.

2010 Blue Tandem Axle
Bunks
4 Wheel Disc Brakes
Swing Away Tongue
LED Lighting

British Columbia Plate# UNE 20V
VIN# 42KD9N826A2000010

Trailer also has a RIV (Registrar of Imported Vehicles) decal on it, as trailer was imported into Canada from USA.

Wow sorry to hear. I will keep a lookout for it on for sale sites I come across although I'd be surprised if I find it in the midwest, but you never know.

What type of lock did you have on it?

Well, yesterday was 30 days since the trailer went missing, and my policy holder has cut me a cheque. I was told that it was unlikely the trailer was being used to haul a boat, but rather cut up for scrap and other parts sold off. Shocking the trailer was worth more as scrap than as a trailer!

Have contacted FW as well as a few trailer manufacturers to find a replacement. An exact FW replacement out of Vancouver, Wash. will run me $6400US + 12% cdn tax + $200cdn import fee. The same up here will run me $9000-$10000cdn, + 12% tax. Also, 2-4 weeks to build & 2 weeks to ship.

I can get a Loadmaster galvanized, bunk trailer out of Wash state for about $5500us plus the above mentioned taxes & fees. My only concern is my over all height on an after market trailer because of the arch.

So, for now, the boat is out of the water getting bottom paint until I figure out the details.

I was surprised to find out how much these original trailers cost. I purchased a repo boat and it was on a continental trailer which was in need of some TLC so I opted to get a loadmaster out of North Carolina and it was 2900 plus 199 document fee. I thought I paid too much now I know I got a great deal on it. WOW these trailers are way overpriced I think. 8) Joe In Miami patiently awaiting delivery today 7-14-11 of my 2008 H220SS 5.7 Gi 300HP can't wait even if the trailer is not original.

Glad insurance paid you out on it. Did you have a hitch lock? I have my trailer on my driveway, but the boat is on it :p, and I've take a few precautions to avoid it getting towed off.

I am not surprised at what the Ins. co. told you. They can not sell it be cause of the Vin#, so it is worth more in parts. Or if it went far enough north were the police is far & few between.

I bought a yard trailer from my dealer. It was one year older than the boat & $700 cheaper than a new one. "Maybe" you could go that route??

As to the hight of the new trailer, it can not be to much different in hight. I have a Loardrite trailer from my old Crownline. The FW dealer, moved/adjusted the cross bars to fit my new boat. You will need to do the same and maybe lower the bunks or rollers.

Hope it works out for you!!

Check out King saltwater trailers. They are very popular around the puget sound and I have had great experience with them in the past. Made locally for our northwest conditions.

Lots of options.

I disagree - the trailer more than likely is being used. A crook doesn't care about reporting actual vin number and getting a license tag. Here all they need to do is get trailer tags as a homemade boat trailer and they have plates. They can restamp the vin so it doesn't come back registered to anyone/anything. Or destroy vin and slap a sticker over it and stamp their own owner applied number to the trailer.

Kindof hard for a police officer to read a vin running down the road. Most don't even know where the vin stamp on various trailers are located. It's a common problem with all trailers.

My insurance company guy figures the trailer was cut up and sold for parts and scrap, but I think the VIN decals were scraped off, the trailer painted, and re-registered as a "u-build".

Still haven't replaced the trailer yet, not sure what I am going to do. cougarcruiser, thanks for the link. May try listing the boat and see what happens (2010, 130hrs, warranty until 2015). Can't go bigger until I sell the one I have!

I forgot about other states, but than again, we are talking about Canada! Here in Mass, that is not how it works. Any home made trailer, needs to be inspected by the RMV. More for safety, but also to see if it is stolen. No re-stamping in this state. If the trailer is under $3000, you don't need a title, but you can ask for one. Over that, you need a title unless it is over 20yrs old. In some states, the trailer has Ins. from the towing vehicle. In Mass, the trailer must be insured & registered.

I know this is OFF the subject, but I do find it interesting, how other states work.

I think you mean pounds and not dollars.

No dolloars $$$$ In other words, is it worth having a title. At least, thats what they told me when I took ownership, at the RMV. There is also a fee to have one made up.
